Right now it’s pouring rain in San Francisco and there are fireworks exploding. Earlier today I saw some amazing textiles from Anatolia, dating from the 1700’s, at the De Young. Incredible compositions, detail, sense of mood and meaning in the abstractions. Lots of folkways embedded in these threads that are beyond me, but you can sense the weight of that history as well as appreciating the craft on an aesthetic level.
