580 Split Just Released

My first foray into book design just was released—the 2011 edition of Mills College literary journal, 580 Split. It was a lot of fun, a lot of work. The cover art by Tyler Bewley really came out brilliantly, and 1984 Printing in Oakland did a top-notch job at printing and perfect-binding it.

At Thursday’s release party at the Mixing Bowl on Telegraph, it was great seeing and hearing some of the writers from this book deliver their work out loud: Rachelle Linda Escamilla, July Westhale, Daniel Reyes, and Andrew Sullivan.

Carefully selecting typefaces, applying rounds of edits to the galleys, obsessing over the margins… I am in love with print, despite most of what I do on a day-to-day basis (aside from reading books) being digital.
